Kia Sportage Ignition Barrel Replacement — Luton, Bedfordshire
Job completed in Luton, Bedfordshire
The problem: a Kia Sportage whose key had been catching halfway for a couple of weeks. In a multi-storey car park in Luton it finally stopped turning altogether — engine off, key in, and no amount of wiggling moving it.
What we found: a worn ignition barrel. The wafers inside no longer lined up with the key, so the barrel couldn't rotate. Common on higher-mileage Kias and Hyundais — and every forced turn wears it further until the key snaps off inside, which is a bigger job.
What we did: removed the worn barrel from the steering column at the car and fitted a new one, pinned to the customer's existing key so one key still works the doors and the ignition. The barrel work is done in the van at your car — no workshop, no recovery truck. Tested, engine running, driving out of the car park the same visit.
Cost: ignition barrel repair or replacement from £150, call-out and labour included, with a 2-year warranty. Price confirmed on the phone before we set off up the M1.
Key won't turn in your Kia?
Try the steering-lock trick first — it's in our key stuck in ignition guide and frees the wheel in about a third of cases. If the key still won't turn, or both keys behave the same, it's the barrel, and it's a job we do at your location.
